Equally Managed Hair
Not all hair types are the same. Every person has a unique hair texture, wave, elasticity and volume. Standard combs work well for straight silky hair; however, they can be a damaging to many hair types, causing hair loss, hair stress, or pain to the scalp
Our Story
In 2018 I had visited a family member at a mental health facility. I sat down across from my family member and I could sense that they were embarrassed. Before I could ask how they were doing, they said, “they don’t have brushes in here, they only have combs”.
My family member has the same hair that I do, and I personally know that a standard comb can be almost impossible to pull through my hair. As I looked around the crowded visiting room, I noticed there were other people staying at the facility with similar hair types to mine. Although they too might have been visiting with their family, their confidence looked low and I suspected it had a lot to do with their appearance. I imagined myself in this situation and how this would affect my self-esteem.
The problem in front of me was larger than this one facility, it was a problem that was also affecting our juvenile detention centers, local jails and prisons. Everyone deserves a tool to manage their hair, especially in circumstances where they could be judged by their peers, facility members or within the criminal system.

Staff and Community
March 5, 2019(3)Our mission is to hire qualified candidates who deserve a second chance. Manepick employs staff, who may have a past background preventing the employee to seek gainful employment elsewhere. Our goal is to help individuals re-enter their communities, employment is a large step in that goal.
